Magna Jazz and The Duncan Anselm Trio
Friday 17th March 2023 – 7.30pm
An evening of jazz in Chew Magna
The evening will kick off with The Duncan Anselm Trio. Alto sax player Duncan Anselm has gigged extensively around the South West since the 1980s. Particular highlights include several appearances at Swanage Jazz Festival, gigs with Harry Beckett and Nigel Price, and broadcasts on Radio 2 (‘Jazz Parade’ introduced by Charles Fox) and HTV (‘At the Albert’ introduced by Miles Kington). Duncan’s two CDs on the Bopcentric Music label feature fantastic quintets of leading London musicians Nat Steele (vibes), Nick Tomalin (piano), Dominic Howles (bass), Matt Home (drums), Dave Warren (guitar) and Matt Fishwick (drums).
With Duncan will be his regular trio of Richard Jenkins (piano) and Adrian Smith (bass). The musicians are looking forward to playing for you some carefully arranged standards from the great American songbook along with some hard bop classics and one or two of Duncan’s original compositions.
Magna Jazz will take over for the second half of the evening. Expect a mix of upbeat swing jazz celebrating artists such as Louis Prima, Ray Charles , Sonny Rollins and Peewee Ellis.
Tickets also for sale at Jars in Chew Magna.
