Sail away with Nicola Skinner and her new book, Starboard

Nicola Skinner started her career as a journalist and copywriter, before a visit to an overgrown country garden inspired her first novel for children, BLOOM, a Guardian Book of the Year.

Her new novel for children, STARBOARD, is the story of Kirsten, an apparently happy and successful 11-year-old YouTube star who meets a ship that comes alive… and is claimed by it as its new captain as it breaks free from its dry dock. Inspired by the true history of the SS Great Britain, Starboard is an epic adventure about friendship and taking control of your own life.

Her workshop will be a fun exploration of the ideas behind the book, with exclusive readings and a chance to draw your own ‘talking map’.
